When it comes to Christmas markets, Edinburgh’s is up there with the best. From 18 November, for six weeks in the run-up to the big day, Princes Street Gardens are lined with stalls selling crafts, artwork and all manner of unexpected delights, sure to please even the pickiest on the Xmas list. And, after a hard day’s shopping, you need somewhere cosy to retreat to – and that’s where the Dunstane Houses come in.
Edinburgh Christmas Markets
Edinburgh is home to several different Christmas markets: including the traditional highland village Christmas market, an ethical Christmas fair and the Real Scottish Christmas fair where traditional Scottish food and beverages as well as traditional crafts and gifts are sold. Visitors will enjoy all the Christmas events that take place in Edinburgh, including an ice-skating rink, a Ferris wheel, the famous Hogmanay celebrations, which is the new-year party that last for four days with concerts, music and events.
The traditional Christmas market in Edinburgh (Edinburgh Christmas market) is held under the Mound, along the east Princes street gardens – from the National Gallery to the Mound precinct, around the Scott Monument, until you get to St. Andrew square, all of which only a 15-minute walk from our front door. In St. Andrew square you’ll find the Children’s Market – with a wide range of quality toys – and the Scottish Market where you will find food and drink and Scottish traditional crafts and gift ideas.
The Christmas Market in Edinburgh shows a selection of typical German cuisine, jewellery, candles, Christmas decorations, toys and crafts. Among the drinks the mulled wine, famous Scotch whiskey, hot chocolate with rum and much more. The traditional and romantic Christmas market in the heart of Edinburgh city offers a unique shopping experience for every visitor with its fair of artisans, artists with souvenir shops and gastronomic surprises. It truly is special.
During the Christmas season the city is richly illuminated with Christmas lights and has many other attractions such as the Ferris wheel and the Winter Wonderland (a large outdoor ice-skating rink).
